The Foundation has an endowment that is invested in a reliable, conservative fund. We annually distribute up to 4-5% of the funds year end principle. When you give to the Foundation, it adds to the “kitty” that earns dividends and interest, thereby allowing the Foundation to pay for projects such as “Books for Babies.” A gift to the Foundation, instead of being a one-off donation, allows you to support our mission of supporting literacy projects in our community for generations to come.
You can also use your will or estate plan to benefit the library in the following ways:
Leave the foundation a set sum of money “off the top” before the remainder of your estate is left to children or family. Or, you can leave the foundation a percentage of your overall estate. A more advanced choice is available if you have a tax-qualified account, like an IRA or a 401K: consider naming the foundation as a beneficiary of your tax-qualified account. (Qualified charities do not pay income taxes, but your children or family members would have to.) With any of these choices, use the foundation’s legal name: Library Foundation of Newberg.
Gifting part of your estate to the library’s foundation is one way to leave a legacy for our community to remember you. But it may also reduce taxes that have to be paid as a result of your death, allowing more to be distributed to those you care about most. Talk to a local attorney for advice about how to revise your will, trust, or estate plan and consider leaving a legacy to the Library Foundation of Newberg.
